Welcome to the Sligo Centre for Independent Living Website

In 1996, Sligo CIL first opened its door providing a Personal Assistant service funded by a CE to the people of Co. Sligo. Sligo CIL is an organisation of, and for physical and/or sensory disabled people, also older people who pursue part of their Independent Living through the provision of services such as Personal Assistant, - Electronic/Manual Note Taker, - and/or Support Needs Assistant Service.

Mission Statement

Sligo CIL strives to promote their services, as well as projecting positive images and perceptions of people with disabilities. This refers to circumstances from person to person, and encourages them to live as they wish, regardless of barriers, which are imposed by society.

If you feel you could avail of one of our services or know somebody who would, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will advise and help you with the application process. But first to help you in your decision, please take the time to download and watch the following DVD which portrays the very different lives of two people with a disability. The DVD was produced by the Blanchardstown Centre for Independent Living gives the viewer an excellent insight to what Independent Living means for people living with a disability and how there are still many barriers that prevent people to take control of their lives, even by those who are closest to us. The DVD also shows us that having a "Personal Assistant" means there is a responsibility or onus on the "Leader" to direct his/her service properly adhering to good employment practices.
